The Soldiers will meet Sofapaka at the quarter-finals of the competition

A 96th-minute goal from Alex Masinde handed Ulinzi Stars a 2-1 last-gasp win over Kenya Police FC in the Forces Derby while Tusker came from two goals down to edge Rainbow FC 3-2 in the FKF Cup.

Police were playing the first game at the recently completed Police Sacco Stadium but that was not enough to inspire them to victory.

The Law Enforcers were lively in the early exchanges and Elvis Rupia came close to breaking the deadlock in the 11th minute with a low curling shot in the box but it was parried away by shot-stopper Sylvain Ricks.

Police went toe-to-toe with Ulinzi Stars and their efforts were rewarded in the 20th minute when Elvis Rupia converted  from the spot to make it 1-0.

Francis Baraza's charges continued to have opportunities on the possession turnovers and Duke Abuya found himself in a good position in the box and fired a low shot that was smothered by Salvaine.

Ulinzi Stars came out of the shell with ten minutes left to the end of the first stanza as Issah Rashid found himself in space through on goal and fired a diagonal strike that zipped past the bottom corner.

The battle intensified in midfield after the break and Ulinzi nearly found an equalizer when Boniface Muchiri found himself at the back post but glanced a free header wide from a set piece situation.

Police regained momentum at the hour mark as Marvin Omondi was denied a quick breakthrough twice in succession by goalkeeper Sylvaine.

Second-half substitute Hilary Simiyu nearly made an impact for Ulinzi as he latched onto the ball but he scooped his shot over the bar.

Police should have wrapped up the game in the 68th minute when Duke Abuya was clear on goal only to squander what would have been a very important goal for the Law Enforcers.

Francis Baraza’s men were made to pay the heavy price for that miss three minutes from time as Eric Juma gave away a penalty following a challenge on Boniface Muchiri.

Muchiri then stepped up and gave Job Ochieng no chance to make it 1-1 on a hot afternoon.

The two teams could not be separated in both quality and tenacity in the closing minutes, but Ulinzi Stars found a late winner courtesy of second-half substitute Alex Masinde.

Elsewhere, Tusker FC sailed through to the last eight after defeating Rainbow FC 3-2  in a match played at the Kasarani Annex.

It was a near embarrassment for Tusker who have been one of the best teams in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League this season.

The Brewers needed a late goal from Eric Zakayo after goalkeeper Michael Wanjala pulled several saves deep in stoppage time; and they joined Sofapaka in the last eight.
