Following the historic milestone, head Morley Byekwaso was quick to stress his preference for Ghana to Senegal as his opponent in the final.

The Uganda U20 team advanced to the final of the 2023 African Games after a nail-biting yet entertaining 4-2 victory over Congo Brazzaville at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

A brace from Bruno Bunyaga and one apiece by Abasi Kyeyune and Hakim Mutebi were enough to have the Hippos into the final for the first time ever in history.

Following the historic milestone, head Morley Byekwaso was quick to stress his preference for Ghana to Senegal as his opponent in the final.

“If I were to choose between Senegal and Ghana, I would say Ghana," Byekwaso told the press.

"I have already played Senegal and in the same tournament, it is tricky to play a team two times."

Indeed, his prayers came to fruition as Ghana edged the Senegalese 1-0 to set up Friday's showdown.

It should be recalled that Uganda beat Senegal 1-0 in the second match of Group A a week back.

Meanwhile, Byekwaso highlighted what his team has done right to warrant four victories in as many matches, and a spot in the final.

“We emulate the best footballing countries in Africa as Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and many others. As a country, we do a lot of research and we pick the knowledge from these football greats."

Uganda against Ghana will be a repeat of the 2020 U20 Africa Cup of Nations final where the latter edged the contest 2-0 in Mauritania.
