Coach Paul Put has named a strong squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Mozambique and Guinea with some players getting a first call-up while others are returning.

Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put has one debutant while three players have been recalled to the national team ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Mozambique and Guinea.

NEC FC star Enock Ssebagala has been rewarded for his impressive season so far with a first call-up to the 26-man national team and he will hope to extend his good spell to the Cranes during the crucial matches.

Meanwhile, England-based Toby Sibbick, who plays for Wigan, has been called back since playing in friendly games against Comoros and Ghana in March 2024 while Abdu Karim Watambala and Rogers Torach return to the national team after being left out of previous campaigns.

Coach Put confirmed an injury blow for the Cranes when he revealed that defender Elio Capraddosi missed out on a call-up after suffering a setback while at his club Citadella AC.

The Cranes face Mozambique away in Egypt on March 20 before hosting Put’s former team Guinea at Namboole Stadium five days later and there is optimism that they will secure positive results to maintain their good start.

Uganda are in a tight World Cup qualifying Group G that has three teams tied on six points. Botswana, Guinea and Uganda are all tied on six points from four matches and with six still games to go, every side has a chance of sealing a place at the 2026 tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Cranes will hit camp on Friday for their preparations before their trip to Egypt the following day where they will be joined by the foreign-based players.
