Burkina Faso has achieved their first aim at the U17 AFCON after dumping Nigeria out of the competition in Algeria.

Burkina Faso coach Brahima Traore has praised his boys after a heroic performance against Nigeria at the U17 AFCON. 

Burkina Faso joined the group of teams that will represent Africa at the next FIFA U17 World Cup following a shock 2-1 win over Nigeria in the quarterfinals on Thursday night.

Aboubacar Camara proved to be the hero for the Junior Stallions after he netted a brace to keep them on the quest for a second AFCON title and a ticket to the World Cup in Peru. 

Burkina Faso gave everything 

The Stallions were the underdogs going into the encounter against Nigeria in the last eight. 

But they produced a calm performance on the night inspired by Camara, who scored in either half, including a penalty, to send them through to the last four.

Burkina Faso coach, Traore, was a happy man after the game and praised his players for giving their all in what he described as a heroic match.

“It was a heroic match and our players gave everything they had,” he told CAF Online.

Brahima Traore is happy to see his Stallions achieve their first goal at the u17 AFCON.

“Qualifying for the semi-finals and the World Cup was one of our goals from the beginning.

We had promised the Federation and the Burkinabe people that we would seek to achieve this and also go for our second AFCON title.”

On the performance against Nigeria, he added that they knew Nigeria were favourites and needed to be calm after being under pressure earlier in the competition.

“After our first loss against Mali we were under pressure,” he added.

Burkina Faso are looking to win the U17 AFCON for the second time.

“But we managed to calm down and get back on track to win against Cameroon and then Nigeria who are both considered as favorites in this competition.”
