Nigeria's U-17 side will now pair up with Burkina Faso in the quarterfinals of the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria's Golden Eaglets on Saturday secured their spot in the quarterfinal of the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations following a thrilling 3-2 victory over South Africa.

The victory meant that Nigeria progressed to the quarterfinal of the competition and was one step closer to securing a ticket to the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

What did Ugbade say after Golden Eaglets win?

Nduka Ugbade, the head coach of the Golden Eaglets, said after the game that he was happy to see his team finally firing well to score three goals after struggling to score in their first two games despite having created so many chances.

“It was a really tough match because South Africa is a really good team and they gave us a tough time. They have three players that are really good; Mabena (Siyabonga), Mkhawana (Vicky) and Dokunmu (Michael). They are very talented players and I was honestly scared of them at first,” Ugbade said after the match.

“We worked a bit in training and we did some corrections. We realized that it was purely psychological and we talked to the players and we saw an improvement today. We might have conceded two but I am glad we scored three,” he added.

Golden Eaglets to play Burkina Faso next

Nigeria's U-17 side will now pair up with Burkina Faso in the quarterfinals of the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after the West African side defeated Cameroon 2-0 in their final group game on Sunday.
