In 2017, Boboye helped Plateau United to their first-ever NPFL title. In 2021, he repeated the same feat with southern underdogs, Akwa United.

Nigerian coach Kennedy Boboye has confirmed that he has updated his coaching portfolio by adding a UEFA C-Licence from the Irish Football Association to his already existing badges.

The 45-year-old took time of coaching after resigning from his position at Akwa United, three years after taking the job, and a year after leading them to their first-ever NPFL title.

I needed to upgrade myself, Boboye says

Explaining why he headed to Europe and relishing his experience in Belfast, Boboye stated that it was important to improve himself in anticipation of the future.

“The only way you can be successful in coaching business is by upgrading yourself. This should be done at least every six months to stay up to date," the former Akwa United boss said according to Soccernet.ng.

“Since I do not have any other business aside from coaching, it was necessary for me to take this step as I always want to get better.

“One of my targets is to be one of the greatest coaches in Nigeria and Africa. I have learnt a big deal here and you will see the changes in my next job.”
