The Kenyan international does not mind filling in at left-back even though he is a right-back by nature
Tusker FC right-back Daniel Sakari is happy to help his club in any role asked by his coach Robert Matano, as long as it helps the team achieve its goals.
Sakari, a natural right-back, had to play as a makeshift left-back against KCB on Tuesday after Levin Joseph was forced to withdraw with due to an injury in the 11th minute.
Speaking to Pulse Sports in the build-up to their Mozzart Bet cup quarter-final clash against the bankers on Saturday, Sakari insisted that sacrificing personal preferences to help the team is 'the most important thing.'
“I have been used to playing left-back before. I have done it for like eight-10 games,” he said,” I also did it while I was at Kariobangi Sharks."
“I am happy to fill in anywhere across the backline as long as it is to help the team win, which is the most important thing,” he added.
Sakari relished the challenge of potentially continuing to play in that role if Matano asks him again, choosing to look on the bright side of things.
“I find it easier to play a right-footed player when playing as a left-back than a left-footer playing there. With a right-footer, it is easier to show him outside and prevent a cross coming in, for a left-footer, it is more difficult to show him outside because he can cut in on that left foot.”
The 24-year-old Kenyan international has challenged his teammates to be ready for a tough task ahead when they face KCB.
“We will be facing the same side which is a big challenge because facing them twice in the space of four days makes both sides predictable. It is like we are used to each other,” Sakari said.
“KCB are a top side. They have good players. We have to be prepared for a tough fight. It will be a game defined by little margins.”
