Mbugua, who was named in the FKFPL team of week one, has struggled to find consistency thanks to a series of recurring injuries since his promotion to the first team in 2020.

Tusker’s versatile defender Jimmy Mbugua has revealed the two reasons behind his fine start to the season stepping in for Daniel Sakari who has been out injured.

Mbugua was named in the team of the week for the first league game of the season for his impressive performance marking Bandari’s Hassan Abdallah away at the Mbaraki Grounds a fortnight ago.

He followed it up with another impressive performance against Kariobangi Sharks, although the Ruaraka-based outfight were confined to a 1-1 draw, halting their desire to get all three points on the day.

Mbugua had struggled with injuries last season, but has returned to full fitness and is now itching to help the team achieve its goals this season.

Speaking to Pulse Sports, Mbugua, who was promoted to the first team set up from the youth team in 2020,  has revealed the two reasons behind his impressive start to the season.

“ First, it is all about God because getting an injury and then coming back stronger is not easy,” Mbugua told Pulse Sports.

“Second is about challenging yourself. When you are outside, you get to see what the player who is on the pitch does. So you either have to do it better or find a way to do it more perfectly than him.”

The versatile defender has revealed that he has learnt to adapt to the right back position after learning a thing or two from Harambee Stars right back Daniel Sakari, which has enabled him to take to the position like a duck to water.

“I have been learning alot from those who have been playing in that position, the likes of Sakari (Daniel).”

Tusker will play Kakamega Homeboyz away at the Bukhungu Stadium in their third league match of the season, hoping to avenge their FKF Cup final loss last season
