Tusker overcome KCB 2-0 to jump back to third place in the FKF Premier League.

A John Njuguna-inspired Tusker had enough about themselves to overcome KCB 2-0 in an FKFPL encounter played at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Sunday to leapfrog them back to third place.

The first half did not produce much, with both sides struggling to create chances in the others’ halves. It had to take until the 39th minute for Tusker’s David Odoyo to make a first real attempt at goal.

Odoyo struck the ball on the volley after picking a defensive header from the edge of the box but it flew straight to the keeper’s palms.

He had another chance right before the break when he picked the ball inside the box and made another brilliant shot but KCB  keeper Farouk Shikalo parried the ball back towards him.

On the rebound, he attempted another shot,  but it was once again blocked to keep the score down, to keep the score tied at the break.

This prompted Bernard Mwalala , the KCB tactician into making early changes. Bringing on Derrick Otanga for January signing Shadrack Simiyu in efforts to help the side get back into the lead.

Shortly into the second half, Tusker were dealt a huge blow after Odoyo suffered an injury, forcing him to bring on Collins ‘Kante’ Otieno.

The breakthrough still could not come, and Robert Matano decided to shake things up even more by bringing on Joseph Mwangi and John Njuguna for Siwa Shapan and Deogracious Ojok in the 61st minute.

The latter would be the one to turn provider for the opening goal by Chrispine Erambo in the 68th minute.

Njuguna floated  in a brilliant corner before Erambo met it at the back post with a bouncing header past a helpless Shikalo, before flying away in celebration.

The provider for the first would soon turn scorer for the second, as Mwangi would be the one to assist Njuguna with the goal when he headed the ball onto his path, before the former Ulinzi man volleyed it home.

In the end, the Alemen would get all the three points with that 2-0 win sealed to put them back in third place.

KCB will have to wait another week for a first win in seven appearances. They remain in 10th place on 27 points, with the loss being their seventh of the season.
