Tanzania Mainland Premier League side secures top-performing midfielder from Tusker FC after an impressive season marked by key contributions.

Shaphan Siwa has announced his departure from Tusker FC bringing an end to a fruitful two-year stint at the club.

The midfielder has joined Tanzanian Premier League side Kagera Sugar as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with the Kenyan champions.

Despite Tusker FC’s efforts to retain him with an improved deal and sign-on package, Kagera Sugar’s lucrative offer, reportedly including a hefty sign-on fee and a significant salary raise, proved too compelling to turn down.

Siwa now returns to Tanzania, having previously played for Biashara United during the 2020/21 season.

“As I bid farewell to Tusker FC, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. The journey with this incredible club has been a chapter in my life that I will forever cherish,” Siwa wrote in an emotional statement following his departure.

“From day one, the warmth and passion of the fans, the support of my teammates, and the dedication of the entire club staff made me feel at home. You, the fans, have been the heart and soul of this experience. Your energy, unwavering support, and enthusiasm have been an unwavering source of motivation,” he added.

Siwa’s departure marks the end of an outstanding season with Tusker FC, where he played a crucial role in the team’s success.

In just 14 matches, the midfielder directly contributed to 10 goals, registering one goal and a league-leading nine assists. His stellar performances on the pitch earned him a call-up to the national team for the Mapinduzi Cup, although he did not make the final traveling squad.

“To my teammates, coaches, and the club’s management, thank you for your trust, encouragement, and camaraderie,” Siwa continued.

“Together, we’ve experienced both triumphs and challenges, but it’s the bonds we’ve formed that I will carry with me always.”

Siwa’s journey with Tusker began in the 2022 midseason transfer window when he joined on a Bosman transfer after leaving Biashara United.

Before his time with Tusker, he also represented Chemelil Sugar FC and Kariobangi Sharks in the FKF Premier League. His versatility and creativity in midfield quickly made him an indispensable part of Tusker’s squad, with his pinpoint assists and vision setting him apart.

“Though I am moving on, I will forever be proud to have worn the yellow jersey,” Siwa concluded.

“I leave with cherished memories, and I will continue to support Tusker from wherever life takes me.”

Kagera Sugar, under the management of former Sofapaka FC coach Melis Medo, is currently struggling in the Tanzanian Premier League, sitting second from bottom with only 11 points after 15 matches.

Siwa’s addition is expected to provide a much-needed spark for the team as they prepare for their next fixture against Yanga SC once the league resumes after the Mapinduzi Cup.
