These comments have triggered widespread criticism, reigniting calls for Haciosmanoglu’s resignation amid accusations of misconduct and questions about his impartiality.
Outrage over live broadcast threats
During a broadcast on TRT Spor, Haciosmanoglu directly addressed Ozbek with incendiary remarks, warning of "heavy costs" for the Galatasaray chairman.
His statement was widely perceived as a threat, leading to accusations that the TFF president was undermining the federation's neutrality.
In response, Ozbek issued a powerful statement condemning the remarks, saying, "The TFF president openly threatened me on live television. I have spent my life standing against these kinds of cheap threats, and I will continue to do so."
Galatasaray and other critics have called for Haciosmanoglu to step down, arguing that his behaviour is incompatible with the principles of fairness and impartiality required for the role.
Haciosmanoglu's troubled history of controversy
Haciosmanoglu's tenure has been marked by controversy. In 2015, as Trabzonspor president, he orchestrated the detainment of referees in a locked room for over four hours following a contentious match.
The referees were only released after the intervention of Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the incident resulted in legal penalties for Haciosmanoglu and several associates.
More recently, his involvement in a large-scale villa project in Bodrum has raised ethical concerns. The project, which threatens a wetland home to nearly 200 bird species, has drawn criticism from environmentalists and locals.
While Haciosmanoglu claims the development will benefit national athletes, many view it as a misuse of power for personal gain.
Observers argue that Haciosmanoglu's behaviour reflects a deeper failure to uphold the integrity of the game and as such he should consider giving up his seat as TFF president.
