AFC Leopards appoint Albert Wesonga as interim CEO to revive the team's fortune after a winless start in the 2023-24 FKFPL season.

Troubled Football Kenya Federation Premier League giants AFC Leopards have taken another decisive action to address their lackluster performance in the 2023-24 Football Kenya Premier League (FKFPL) by appointing Albert Wesonga as the club's new Chief Executive Officer.

The move comes in the wake of a disastrous start to the season, with AFC Leopards failing to secure a win in six matches.

Victor Bwibo, the former CEO, has officially been relieved of his duties, paving the way for Wesonga to step into the role on an interim basis.

In a statement released by AFC Leopards' Secretary General, Gilbert Andugu, the club officially introduced Wesonga as the acting CEO for the next six months.

“Albert Edson Wesonga has been appointed as the New Chief Executive Officer in an Acting capacity for the next six months effective immediately. Mr. Wesonga has been elevated from the position of the Team Manager that he has been holding for the last one year. We wish him the best of luck as he takes over the new role at the club," the statement conveyed.

Wesonga, who previously managed the now-defunct Dandora Love, brings a wealth of experience to the role and is tasked with steering the club out of its current predicament.

The decision to appoint him was influenced by his successful tenure as the Team Manager, showcasing his understanding of the inner workings of the club.

The outgoing CEO, Victor Bwibo, had been with AFC Leopards for five years, joining the club in 2018 as he took over from Jacob Abisai.

Bwibo's departure was prompted by a series of disappointing results, culminating in a 2-0 loss to arch-rivals Gor Mahia, which proved to be the final blow for the former Ingwe midfielder at the club.

AFC Leopards' dismal start to the season includes zero wins, four draws, and two defeats, leaving them languishing in the lower ranks of the FKFPL.

With the Football Kenya Premier League on a brief recess for the international break, the players are set to return to training under the management of the new CEO.

Wesonga's first challenge will be to prepare the team for their upcoming clash against fellow strugglers Bandari FC, scheduled for October 22 at Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa.
