Tottenham will not be allowed to bring Ex-England international and in-vogue podcaster Ben Foster out of retirement
Tottenham’s move for former England international Ben Foster has hit a snag after the Premier League refused to allow them a special dispensation to sign a player outside the regular transfer window to replace the injured Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham unable to replace Lloris
Tottenham will be without Lloris for up to eight weeks after the French goalkeeper injured his knee. They hoped that they would be able to sign another goalkeeper on a short-term contract as cover for the squad.
Spurs planned to coax Foster out of his exciting post-retirement life of podcasting but have now been told they would not be allowed to sign Foster or any other goalkeeper due to the Premier League’s new rules.
The Premier League usually allows clubs to sign players on free transfers outside the regular transfer window under special circumstances, but they find this situation is not special enough to allow Spurs that privilege.
Tottenham to turn to reserve team to cover Lloris injury
After being denied the chance to sign Foster, Tottenham will have to depend on players from their reserve team to cover for the Frenchman’s absence.
Fraser Forster, who is the only goalkeeper left in the squad has become the first-choice goalkeeper, but his previous spot as backup is now up for grabs.
Contesting for that spot will be Brandon Austin who was on the bench against Leicester City and Alfie Whiteman who just returned from loan a loan spell at Degerfors IF.
