While Victor Osimhen's replacement inspired Napoli to a win over AC Milan, there was nothing that Samuel Chukwueze could do to help the Rossoneri
Nigerian star Samuel Chukwueze got his chance to start as expected but was unable to leave an impression on the game as AC Milan fell to a 2-0 loss in Serie A.
The Super Eagle star played all 90 minutes of the game, but it was goals from Romelu Lukaku and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia that ultimately decided the match in favour of the visitors.
The 2-0 win puts Napoli firmly at the top of the Serie A table, nine points ahead of AC Milan, who are languishing in 8th place.
How it happened
AC Milan faced significant setbacks before their clash with Napoli, as stars Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders were suspended for the match in the fall out from the Bologna stadium flooding.
Napoli took advantage early, with Romelu Lukaku scoring in the fifth minute after a well-timed pass from Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa to mark his 100th Serie A goal involvement.
Despite efforts from Milan’s Yunus Musah and Samuel Chukwueze, Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret made critical saves and the Partenopei doubled their lead just before halftime as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored with a precise shot from outside the box.
Milan thought they’d pulled one back through Alvaro Morata’s header, but VAR ruled it offside. Paulo Fonseca introduced Pulisic and Leao in the final half-hour to boost Milan’s attack.
While Leao came close with a powerful shot that forced a save from Meret, Pulisic missed a late opportunity that could have gotten AC Milan back into the game.
Although the Rossoneri pushed forward aggressively, they struggled to create clear chances, leaving Napoli to secure a 2-0 victory.
