FKFPL Too ambitious? City Stars defender targets top 10 finish for Simba wa Nairobi

08:30 - 06.05.2023

The 21-year-old player is eager to aid the struggling side to the top half of the table

Nairobi City Stars defender Edwin Buliba believes his team has what it takes for a top 10 finish in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The Simba wa Nairobi find themselves 14th on the FKFPL standings, nine points above the relegation zone and as many behind 10th-placed side Posta Rangers.

Buliba has set his sights on helping his side register positive results in the remaining six matches, having missed 10 games this season.

“My season had ups and downs. I had an injury setback but I came back stronger. I am enjoying lots of playtime and I want to help the team do well in the final stretch of the season,” said Buliba in an interview with the club website.

“I know the team has maturity now. We are now tackling each game as a final, and I believe we will finish in the top 10,” added Buliba.

A natural centre-back now plugging in at right-back, he has featured in 17 of the 28 games played this season, earning 1,511 minutes.

In the past two seasons, Buliba played eight and nine games respectively and was handed a new one-year contract at the start of the 2022-23 season.

During City Stars' last outing, he clocked full minutes in their goalless draw against defending champions Tusker.

Simba wa Nairobi will be away against Ulinzi Stars at Ulinzi Sports Complex in their next game before playing Bandari in a mid-week match on Wednesday.
