Confusion surrounds Tomas Trucha's status at AFC Leopards as conflicting statements deepen uncertainty about his coaching role.

Black smoke hovers over the AFC Leopards' den as the club finds itself engulfed in confusion surrounding the status of head coach Tomas Trucha.

Despite reports from the club suggesting a mutual termination of his contract, the Czech tactician insists he remains contracted to the team, deepening the mystery surrounding his role.

The saga unfolded after Ingwe’s 2-1 defeat to Shabana at Gusii Stadium on Wednesday, November 27th, when a top club official revealed that Trucha would no longer handle the side.

"We have talked with the coach and agreed to terminate his contract, all I can say is it is a mutual agreement from both parties, and I want to wish Trucha well in his next destination," a top AFC Leopards official was quoted by Flashscore.

True to those words, Trucha was conspicuously absent from the sidelines during the club's 1-0 victory over Kenya Police at Dandora Stadium in a match that saw assistant coach Fred Ambani take charge.

However, when contacted, Trucha shared a different perspective.

"I am sorry. I am still not free; I am still contracted to AFC Leopards," Trucha said.

When pressed on his absence from the match against Kenya Police, Trucha explained, "Because we agreed to part ways mutually, it is a procedure so please just understand."

The tactician declined to delve deeper into the procedural delays adding to the growing speculation.

"I did not leave yet. I am saying it is a procedure," Trucha reiterated, offering little clarity.

When further questioned on what the procedure entailed, he deflected, saying, "Please understand or ask AFC Leopards officials; they know better, but I will explain once all is done. I can't talk now."

Behind the scenes, club insiders suggest that Trucha has been actively seeking an amicable exit.

"He is looking for a way to terminate the contract, but he is the one stepping down willingly. He wants to go, so for now, he is not going to handle the team. We have given the team to Fred (Ambani)," said a club official who requested anonymity.

Trucha's stint at AFC Leopards has been a turbulent one this season with the team managing just three wins in nine league matches.

Despite a promising start that saw Leopards thrash Mathare United 4-0 in the opening fixture the campaign quickly turned sour.

A string of underwhelming results, including losses to Posta Rangers, Murang’a Seal, and Shabana, coupled with a postponed Mashemeji Derby, piled pressure on the coach to step aside.

The tipping point came after the defeat to Shabana a match many believe marked the end of Trucha’s tenure at the Den.

Still, his insistence on being under contract leaves the door open for further complications.
