Salah scored twice against Manchester United to become Liverpool's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has spoken about his joy at becoming Liverpool’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League.
The Egyptian forward broke Robbie Fowler’s record of 128 goals in the Premier League after scoring a brace against Manchester United.
Salah overjoyed at reaching milestone
Salah scored Liverpool’s fourth and sixth goals in the 7-0 thrashing of their arch-rivals and has spoken of his elation at being able to break a record that he set out to surpass on his first day at the club.
Speaking after the victory over Manchester United, Salah said, "I cannot describe it. This is one of my best days of my life, and I broke the record that I was seeking from the time I came to the club.”
On the match as a whole, Salah said Liverpool were able to produce a performance of that quality because their players simply wanted it more and were hungry for goals, but he warned his teammates not to let the result go to their heads.
"We entered the match, and our goal was to win. Everyone was hungry to score, and we scored seven and I hope this will give us a boost, not an excessive confidence,” he said after the match.
Liverpool’s terrific trio
The desire from Liverpool’s front-three was palpable, as Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez each grabbed a brace, becoming the first trio to score two goals each in a single Premier League match since February 1999.
Even substitute Roberto Firimno got in on the act, and Salah said he would have loved it if other players got on the score sheet too.
"After we all scored the goals, I wanted Firmino and [Diogo] Jota to score, and Firmino was able to score." Salah said.
The win over Manchester United leaves Liverpool with a chance of reaching the top four, and with a performance like the one they had against Manchester United, most fans will be optimistic that Liverpool can reach their goal for the season.
