Vinicius Jr sent a strong message to his detractors after FIFA Best triumph.

Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr had words for his detractors after he was named the FIFA World Player of the Year last night.

Vinicius’s triumph

The Brazil international had a slow start to last season, especially due to the injury he sustained. However, he returned explosively and led the Los Blancos to a LALIGA and Champions League double.

He was a shoo-in to win the Ballon d'Or but suffered a disappointment when the voters opted for Manchester City’s Rodri.

Hence, the player and the rest of Real Madrid as an institution snubbed the event. FIFA has now acknowledged Vinicius for his incredible season, as he was presented with the award last night.

Vinicius Jr scored one and assisted another goal for Real Madrid.

What Vinicius said

The 25-year-old is one of the most divisive football players around, given his brave fight against racism in Spain and the incredible passion he exudes on the pitch.

That passion sometimes veers into petulance and has earned the winger many critics. Former Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira warned Vinicius to cut that part out of his game if he wants to reach the level of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

Khedira is one of many who has reservations about that part of the former Flamengo star’s game and after winning the FIFA POTY, Vinicius sent a message to his critics.

“I came, I saw, I won," he wrote on Instagram. "Today I write this for that boy who saw so many idols lift that trophy…Your time has come.

"That is, my time has come. The time to state that, yes, I am the best player in the world and I fought a lot to get here.”

"They tried and continue to try to cancel me, to belittle me. But they're not able to. Nobody is going to tell me for whom I can fight, or how I should behave. When I was in [home town] Sao Goncalo, the system didn't work for me. I was almost swallowed up.

"I won for me, for my family. With a lot of support along the way: Flamengo, Real Madrid, the Brazilian national team, hundreds of my fellow players during those years... the people who share with me my daily routine, who admire the best player in the world.”
