The Kenya U-20 star will be joining Swedish outfit AIK when he turns 18 this August.
Kariobangi Sharks' prodigy, Stanley Wilson, has opened up about his trial with Swedish top-flight team AIK earlier this year, ahead of his anticipated move to the 2018 Allsvenskan champions.
Wilson, who joined Sharks from Darajani Gogo and earned a call-up to the Harambee Stars squad last September, has been a standout performer in the league this season.
Although Wilson has yet to earn his first senior cap, he has been a key player for Kenya U18 at the CECAFA U18 Championships last December and for the Rising Stars at the Malawi Four Nations Tournament this March.
During his one-month trial in Sweden, he participated in several friendly matches and even scored against Halmstad. AIK’s director confirmed that Wilson would sign professional terms with the club once he turns 18.
Reflecting on his experience, Wilson expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.
“Getting that opportunity was hard but I thank God because of that moment. I got a trial there, and gave my best and left them impressed,” Wilson told Buzz Sports.
“Because of the hard work I put in, and the quality I showed, we agreed I would be signing for the club when I turned 18.”
Wilson's performance left a lasting impression, with fans likening him to former Chelsea star N’Golo Kante due to his playing style and stature.
“I was so happy. The fans were so happy, they even christened me with a name. They don’t call me Stano or Wilson, but they are dubbing me Kante because of my height and my playing style, as well as my love for tucking in shirts,” said Wilson.
“There is a coach that told me he was happy with my performance considering it is usually hard to train with foreign players, but I fitted in like a glove.”
Wilson aspires to follow in the footsteps of Kenyan greats like McDonald Mariga and Victor Wanyama by playing for a major European club and competing in the UEFA Champions League.
“Everyone has a dream. I want to play in the UEFA Champions League within the next five years. No small team plays in the competition. I hope God will bless me one day and enable me to play in the competition for one of the biggest teams in Europe.”
