Fabregas on EURO 2024 favourites
The hosts Germany were the first to book their place in the last 16, winning two games and drawing the other, while Spain cruised through their group with a perfect record, defeating Croatia, Italy and Albania.
Fabregas, who won the Euros with Spain in 2008 and 2012 as well as the World Cup in 2010, believes the two nations are the most complete teams in the tournament so far.
"Germany and Spain (are my favourites to win Euro 2024). They have very similar qualities,” per Sportskeeda.
“Similar type of football, similar principles. They look comfortable," the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder said.
Fabregas highlighted the teams' tactical discipline, possession-based approach and aggressive playing style as key factors behind his prediction.
"They are the ones that are more ready to play this modern intense, aggressive football. Good on the ball, disciplined tactically (as well),” he added.
“They are the most complete teams in the tournament at the moment," the Premier League legend concluded.
The EURO 2024 tournament, hosted by Germany, has been a fiercely contested affair, with several other strong contenders such as France, England and the Netherlands also vying for the continental crown.
However, Fabregas believes Germany and Spain have the edge over their rivals at this stage of the competition.
Germany will face a tricky tie against Denmark in the quarterfinals at the weekend while Spain battle Georgia, who stunned Portugal in their final group game 24 hours later.
All eyes will be on these two powerhouses as they aim to secure their places in the final and potentially set up a titanic clash for the European championship.
