Following Barcelona's comfortable 4-1 win over Girona last weekend, the club is well on course to break a record set by the Lionel Messi-inspired squad from 2011-12 under Pep Guardiola.

FC Barcelona's dominant 4-1 victory over Girona on Sunday not only solidified their position at the top of LaLiga but also propelled them closer to breaking one of the most iconic records in the club’s history.

Hansi Flick’s side has now netted an astonishing 139 goals in just 45 matches across all competitions, maintaining a blistering average of 3.08 goals per game.

With 82 of those strikes coming in LaLiga, the Catalan giants hold a three-point lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid in the title race.

The club’s highest-ever goal tally in a single season was set in 2011-12 under Pep Guardiola, when a Lionel Messi-inspired squad found the back of the net 190 times in 64 matches, averaging 2.97 goals per game.

That campaign remains legendary, largely due to Messi’s mind-blowing individual contribution of 73 goals, the highest single-season tally in European football history.

Now, Flick’s squad is well on track to shatter that milestone. With at least 12 matches remaining in the 2024-25 season—not including a potential Copa del Rey final, Champions League semi-finals, or final—Barcelona has a realistic shot at eclipsing their all-time record.

If the Blaugrana maintain their current LaLiga scoring rate of three goals per game, they could end the domestic campaign with 109 goals.

Factoring in potential deep runs in all competitions, Barcelona is projected to conclude the season with approximately 187 goals. Should they advance in all remaining tournaments, that number could climb even higher, possibly surpassing the 190-goal benchmark.

Despite the excitement surrounding this potential record-breaking season, Hansi Flick remains grounded.

Speaking after the commanding win over Girona, the German tactician downplayed the significance of statistical milestones, instead emphasizing the importance of consistency and match-by-match focus.

"For me, the important thing was the three points. I'm happy with the game. The defense was very good, and the substitutions were very positive," Flick stated in his post-match press conference.

While Flick and his players may not be fixated on rewriting the record books, the numbers speak for themselves.

If Barcelona continues their relentless attacking form, they could not only secure silverware but also etch their names in history by toppling the legendary 2011-12 team’s scoring record. With key attacking stars firing on all cylinders, the prospect of breaking Messi and Guardiola's iconic mark is now more realistic than ever.
