'The fact is it is disproportionate. It is unjust’ - Sean Dyche lashes out at Everton’s 10 point deduction

Everton manager Sean Dyche has criticised the 10-point deduction for financial rule violations, calling it an unfair judgement.

The Toffees were punished by the FA last week for breaching the league's profit and sustainability regulations.

The ruling against Everton, which they will appeal, was made for overspending by £19.5 million over a four-year period that concluded in the 2021–22 season.

The 10-point deduction left Sean Dyche's men 19th in the table as they welcome Manchester United on Sunday.

Sean Dyche’s comment

The Premier League's punishment last week, according to Toffees manager Sean Dyche, would only make his team's siege mentality stronger as they attempt to avoid relegation.

In response to the punishment, supporters and commentators protested and Dyche said he was shocked by the decision.

He said as reported by Daily Mail, “Like everyone, I was shocked. The enormity of it. Disproportionate is a word that has been used by the club.

“It doesn't change the focus of sorting things out on the pitch. We were on the right lines for that and this has just given us a push backwards to go forward again.

“The final league table is the truth of a season. I told the lads that, for sure, it changes the viewpoint but it doesn't change what we are doing.

“We have to go harder for longer and stronger. It's been more about refocus than anything. All the senior boys have rallied and said, "Let's take on the next challenge".

“There have been plenty of challenges since I've been here so let's take it on. I don't know every inch of what went on but I certainly believe in what the club has put forward.

“The fact is it is disproportionate. It is unjust. What is done is done, theappeal pending. We have to get on with it.”

Meanwhile, 'Premier League corrupt’ signs, banners and flags will be flown at Goodison Park by Everton supporters in protest of their team's point deduction versus United on Sunday.
