Harambee Stars are among the 100 most valuable squads in world football, but what is their precise value?

Kenya’s Harambee Stars have made a slight yet significant improvement, maintaining their place among the world’s top 100 most valuable national football teams.

Despite a dip in their global rankings following a disappointing AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign under former Turkish coach Engin Firat, the team’s combined market value remains impressive, estimated at €24.93 million (≈ Ksh 3.3 billion).

Slight improvement in value

According to the latest rankings by TransferMarkt.com, Harambee Stars currently sit at 85th position globally, a step up from 82nd in November last year.

This improvement reflects an increase in the squad's overall market worth, which was valued at Ksh 3.2 billion previously. On the African continent, Kenya ranks 23rd, demonstrating its growing stature as a hub for emerging football talent.

Olunga, Okumu boost value

The Harambee Stars’ rise in value is attributed to a new generation of young talent, many of whom are making waves internationally. Leading the squad’s valuation is Stade Reims’ Joseph Okumu, who boasts a market value of €9 million.

Qatar-based captain Michael Olunga follows closely at €8 million, while Timothy Ouma, who recently extended his contract despite interest from English Premier League clubs such as Brentford, Sheffield United, and Tottenham, is valued at €3 million. Defender Daniel Anyembe rounds out the list of standout valuations with a market worth of €1 million.

Particularly noteworthy is the defensive line, where players like Okumu, Anyembe, Collins Sichenje, and Johnstone Omurwa have attracted attention from top clubs, securing lucrative contracts and boosting Kenya’s reputation on the international football scene.

Kenya’s defenders are now among the highest-paid in Africa, solidifying the Harambee Stars’ position as a source of elite talent.

England still world’s most valuable national team

Kenya’s placement in the top 100 is even more impressive when juxtaposed with global football giants. England leads the pack with a staggering squad value of €995 million (Ksh 132.7 billion), followed by France at €978 million (Ksh 130.4 billion) and Brazil at €921 million (Ksh 122 billion).

Euro 2024 champions Spain rank fourth with a valuation of €890.9 million (Ksh 118 billion), while Portugal rounds out the top five at €835 million (Ksh 111.4 billion).

Meanwhile, Argentina, despite their World Cup triumph, sit ninth with a squad worth €776 million (Ksh 103.5 billion). Closer to home, Morocco leads African nations with a squad valuation of €386 million (Ksh 51.5 billion), followed by Nigeria at €345.85 million (Ksh 46.1 billion).
