Yaya Toure has recalled his unforgettable Barcelona journey, naming a couple of iconic teammates who left a lasting impact on him.

Barcelona legend Yaya Toure has revealed the players who stood out for him during his time at the Spanish La Liga club.

The former Manchester City midfielder joined Barcelona from Monaco in 2007 and spent close to three years at the club, a stint that greatly shaped his career.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, Yaya Toure revealed that he had always wanted to play for Barcelona and finally getting a chance to go there was a dream come true. He knew he had to make an impact before leaving.

When asked about the players who impressed him the most during his time at the club, Yaya Toure had two legends on his mind.

Yaya Toure singled out Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto’o as the players who had a great impact on his career by the time he was leaving Catalonia for Manchester City.

“The best, without a doubt. It was an incredible journey because I was with experienced players like Edmilson, Thiago Motta, Xavi, Iniesta, Eto’o and Henry. I was amazed being around those kinds of players. Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry (stood out for me),” Yaya Toure fondly remembered.

"Henry with his experience after winning every possible title. In 2009, we won every possible title, six titles in one year. It was a perfect team.

“Samuel Eto’o was Africa's first and for Thierry Henry, I used to see him in the Premier League for Arsenal and playing with him and sharing the dressing room with him meant a lot to me. The two gave me a strong mentality but all of them played a huge role in my career.”

Yaya Toure also singled out other legends who had an impact on his career and made his life memorable. He revealed that Eidur Gudjohnsen, coming from Chelsea had a lot of experience.

The 41-year-old pointed out Ronaldinho, who was unique in character and he would always make fun of Yaya Toure.

“In my early days with Barcelona during training, Ronaldinho seemed ordinary. But one day he came to me and said, ‘Be careful, Yaya, if you get close to me, I’ll make you a laughing stock.’ I thought he was just joking, but every time I got near him, he’d nutmeg me,” Toure added.

Yaya Toure also spoke about Lionel Messi among his other favourites, as he explained that the Argentine football star was fragile and always protected.

He noted that opponents would always downplay him but they knew how talented he was and he helped them come out as winners in most of their matches.

“Everyone protected him, because we knew he was a talented player and we recognized how good he was. That was very beneficial for the club. We were happy when opponents pressed us high. Because we simply, without thinking, would try to pass the ball to him immediately,” he revealed.

Speaking about the impact Xavi and Andreas Iniesta had on his career, Yaya Toure said: “Iniesta and Xavi never lost the ball in training. As brilliant as they were, they were very simple. I was always laughing at their simple style of dressing.”

Yaya Toure had a dream of playing for Barcelona and when he got that chance, he never looked back, gaining all the skills he needed and showing off. With legends like Samuel Eto’o and Thierry Henry by his side, Yaya Toure emerged to be one of the greatest football players.
