Kalidou Koulibaly believes that one key trait makes Graham Potter a great manager
Chelsea’s Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibably has come to the defence of his under-fire manager Graham Potter by attesting to his best qualities as a football coach.
Potter has been under pressure to deliver results for Chelsea, but seems to be failing spectacularly, with the team standing almost no chance of finishing in the top four, while also being out of both domestic cups, and with one leg out of the UEFA Champions League.
Koulibaly backs Potter despite Chelsea struggles
The Blues have won only one and lost six of their last 10 fixtures, a record that would have seen most Chelsea managers lose their jobs, but Potter has managed to keep his job with the backing of Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly.
Koulibaly backs the decision to keep Boehly in charge and has extolled his manager as a great communicator who does is open with every player on the team. Speaking with SunSport, Koulibaly said “Graham Potter is very good at communicating with everyone. And he doesn’t care if you cost £100 million or £20 million.
“He will treat you in the same way. That’s the mark of a great manager.”
Koulibaly’s stuttering Chelsea start
Koulibaly was originally signed under Thomas Tuchel who has since left the club, but he has now played under a second manager and might still play under a third in his solitary season with Chelsea.
Koulibaly joined Chelsea in the summer from Napoli for €38 million but has not had the effect that most fans would have expected from him.
Chelsea’s defence has been notoriously shaky, and Koulibably himself has been out of sorts since he joined the club, but if things take shape under Potter, he could become one of the integral players.
