Super Eagles star Terem Moffi is ruled out of Nice's clash against Lorient due to a clause in his contract.
Nigerian striker Terem Moffi is ineligible to face Lorient, who are his parent club, when Nice face off against Lorient on Sunday.
Moffi is on loan at Nice from Lorient; however, there is a mandatory purchase clause for €25 million to be triggered in the summer.
Moffi ruled out against Lorient
L'Equipe reports a clause in Moffi's contract while swapping Lorient for Nice that prevents him from lining up against Regis Le Bris's side.
The 23-year-old joined Nice in the January transfer window on an initial loan with an obligation to buy, making Lorient his parent club.
Lorient reached an agreement with Nice that stipulates that Moffi will be prevented from playing against Les Merlus when they travel to Nice's Allianz Riviera stadium to face Didier Digard's side on Sunday.
Nice will pay a mandatory €25 million fee plus €5 million to make Moffi's deal permanent.
Moffi joined Nice at the end of the January transfer window after a protracted transfer saga that saw him linked with multiple clubs, including those from the big-spending Premier League.
However, the striker was insistent on joining Digard's side, who, after multiple negotiations, found an agreement with Lorient.
Analysis: Terem Moffi is a big man, but does not play like one
Moffi hit the ground running
Moffi has been one of the best strikers in Ligue 1 for the past three seasons, scoring 14 goals in his first season and eight last term.
His impressive numbers returned this season, scoring 12 league goals for Lorient, which increased his allure in the January transfer window.
Nice landed him, and although he struggled to find the back of the net in his first three games, he announced himself to fans of Les Aiglons in the derby against Monaco with a brace and an assist.
He scored and assisted this past weekend against Nantes, taking his Ligue 1 tally to 15 goals this season.
He will be available for Nice in their UEFA Conference League second-leg encounter against Sheriff in which they have a first-leg 1-0 advantage, but Nice fans will have to wait until after the international break to see Moffi in action in Ligue 1, as he is ineligible to face Lorient this weekend
