Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants his side to control the emotions in their Europa League quarter-final second leg against Sevilla and use it as a tool.
Manchester United blew a 2-goal lead against Sevilla last week at Old Trafford, with late own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire leaving the tie finely poised heading into Thursday’s game in Seville.
The first leg in Manchester was a tense affair, particularly after a row between United’s Antony and Sevilla’s Marcos Acuna served to spice up the home crowd.
Ten Hag calls for calm
When asked about how his side might cope with the hostile crowd at Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, United boss Erik ten Hag replied:
“That’s also in the development of our team, you have to use emotion as a tool, but you have to control it as well.
“You have to put it in the right moments and the timing of it is important, and in big games especially you have to know when you use it and definitely not.
“Last week we did as well. So, focus on the game, focus on playing the best game you can, as a team and as individuals.”
The Sevilla match will be followed by an FA Cup semi-final against Brighton on Sunday before a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur next Thursday.
