The Manchester United coach has warned his players and the match officials to be mindful of Newcastle's time-wasting antics as they prepare for Sunday's Carabao Cup final.
Manchester United and Newcastle meet at Wembley on Sunday in the Carabao Cup final with United boss, Ten Hag looking to win the first trophy of his Old Trafford reign.
The last time the club won anything significant was in 2017 under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho when they lifted the Europa League title.
Newcastle, who themselves are looking to win their first major trophy since 1969, have recently been accused of time-wasting in games this season, most notably by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Ten Hag on Newcastle's antics
Opta stats show that only Leeds United have had the ball in play less than Newcastle over the course of the Premier League season.
At his press conference on Friday, Ten Hag warned his players while also sending a message to the officials.
"They're an annoying team to play against, so we have to find a way to win," Ten Hag said.
"They try to annoy you. We have to make sure that we play our game and we focus on our game. You see the referee wants to play an effective time.
"They have the lowest in the league and they are quite successful with it. So it's up to us that we get speed in the game and we are also then dependent on the refereeing as well."
Ten Hag was also asked about Rashford's fitness and availability for the game and he said:
“I don’t know. So, players now are coming in. We have to do investigations, medical of course.”
Ten Hag’s men will head to Wembley in a confident mood after Thursday’s Europa League victory over Barcelona.
