Harambee Stars defensive midfielder Anthony Akumu Agay has found a new club in the Persian Gulf Pro League, ending a night-mareish 20-month spell in his career.
The former Gor Mahia, Zesco and Kaizer Chiefs man has joined Kheybar Khorramabad FC on a year-long contract, extending until June 30, 2025, according to Transfermarkt.
Akumu's journey to Iran marks a new chapter in his career after a challenging stint in Japan, where he struggled to secure playing time.
Restricted to just three cup games with Sagan Tosu and failing to make any league appearances, Akumu left the club earlier this year and has been a free agent since.
Kheybar Khorramabad FC, freshly promoted to the top tier after topping the Azadegan League, has already unveiled Akumu, who is expected to start training with his new teammates immediately.
The club hopes his experience and defensive prowess will bolster their squad as they prepare for their inaugural season in the Persian Gulf Pro League.
Despite his recent club challenges, Akumu has remained an integral part of the Kenyan national team setup.
