The Tanzanian topflight league has stormed into the top ten leagues in Africa. But which other leagues make the top ten?
Which country boasts having the best league in Africa?
This is a question that is always asked and discussed meticulously amongst football fans in Africa. Most people always get torn between which country in Africa possesses the strongest national team, and which one possesses the best domestic league.
Whilst countries such as Senegal may boast having a very strong national team with all the players who were part of the team that played at the 2022 Qatar World Cup plying their trade abroad, you may argue that there was a lack of sufficient quality from their domestic league that made a compelling case to be part of the team.
This may be because, Senegalese teams do not do well in the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederations Cup, which are Africa’s two premier continental competitions.
In the recently concluded 2022/2023 season, Tanzania’s Simba reached the quarter finals of the Champions League while Yanga reached the final of the Confederation Cup. This may have boosted the league’s coefficients, hence raising the league’s rankings.
So, in a continent that boasts having 55 member associations, each with their own leagues, which make the top ten? (This list is ranked based of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics)
