Sweet revenge for the Gunners as they hammer West Ham at London Stadium

Stephen Oladehinde 17:00 - 11.02.2024

Arsenal thumped West Ham in sweet revenge after losing against the Hammers in the Carabao Cup and the Premier League this season.

The Gunners were hoping to get one over their London rivals and did it in a very comfortable way.

Arteta’s men defeated West Ham 6-0 leaving David Moyes’ men clueless as they put pressure on league leaders Liverpool.

Four goals in the first half from Saliba, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel and Trossard and two goals in the second half from Declan Rice and another from Saka.

As it happened

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made two changes to his side from the team that were 3-1 winners over Liverpool a week ago. Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior start in place of Jorginho and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Meanwhile, West Ham boss David Moyes has named the same starting line-up and bench from the team that lost 3-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford a week ago.

Arsenal started the game brightly and got several chances to get the first goal in the first 15 minutes of the game.

However, they did not relent and got the first goal in the 32nd minute from a corner. Rice played the corner kick to the far post and it was met by Saliba from close range.

The Gunners pushed for the second goal and got it in the 41st minute from the penalty spot. Bukayo Saka stood to take the penalty after being fouled by Areola and hammered in his 50th goal for the Gunners.

Arteta’s men did not look like they would slow down with the goals and scored the third goal three minutes later.

Declan Rice curled the ball in from the free-kick and Gabriel gets away from the defence to head in from close range.

Arsenal made it four from a fine passage of play when Martin Odegaard burst through the middle and slipped the ball to Leandro Trossard, who curled a fine finish into the far corner.

The Gunners came back for the second half looking bright. The goals kept on coming and could not stop as they added two more goals to make it six.

Martin Odegaard feeds Bukayo Saka, who cuts inside and has the whole goal to aim for and he drives a shot beyond Alphonse Areola's left.

And shortly after Declan Rice thumped an unstoppable drive from distance into the back of the net to rub more salt into the Hammers' sizeable wounds.

The referee blew the whistle for full time with the Gunners handing West Ham a heavy defeat.
