Duran has been winning plaudits for his valuable impact off the bench in recent matches.

Jhon Duran has signed a new six-year deal at Aston Villa as a reward for his fine start to the season, ending speculation regarding his long-term future.

The Colombian has bagged six goals in all competitions this season, highlighting his electric form off the bench for coach Unai Emery's side. Duran has become renowned for his audacious finishes and outrageous strikes from distance.

The 20-year-old made headlines last week as he rifled the ball past a stranded Manuel Neuer from range to give Villa a famous 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Duran has given his manager a selection headache after making the super-sub role his own by outscoring England star Ollie Watkins, who remains Villa's go-to number 9. Signed in 2023, Duran scored eight goals in 37 appearances in his first full season at the club last year, after joining from MLS outfit Chicago Fire, though most of his showing were off the bench.

His new deal is a further proof that he is part of Villa's long term plans as the team chases silverware on all fronts. The new deal also ends the rumoured interest from Real Madrid who are yet to fill the void left by Karim Benzema despite the arrival of Kylian Mbappe from PSG.

Rumours of Madrid interest gathered pace in the last few days after his heroic exploits against Bayern. Real Madrid sent scouts to watch the ice-cool striker who has been dubbed 'super sub'. Chelsea held a long-standing interest in the striker but a deal never materialised. Westham were also linked with the striker.

Duran will return to action after the international break as Villa travel to Craven Cottage to settle scores with Fulham.
