Defender Michelle Alozie made a shocking revelation about her football idol and the reason why she wears different-coloured boots
Super Falcons fan favourite Michelle Alozie has revealed the secret behind her unique fashion habit of wearing different-coloured boots and linked the habit to her shocking choice of football idol.
Michelle Alozie reveals the secret behind boot anomaly
The Super Falcons' defender has been a constant fixture at right-back during Nigeria’s run to the World Cup Round of 16 and has quickly earned the reputation of being one of the team’s most beloved players.
The Houston Dash defender has also drawn the attention of fans thanks to her unique fashion custom, which has caught the eye of onlookers.
Alozie was asked about the reason behind her unusual tendency to wear a different colour of football boots on each foot during matches, and she replied, saying it was a homage to her favourite player of all time, who did something similar at a World Cup as well.
Alozie inspired by favourite football star
The 26-year-old Women’s World Cup star told NFFTV, “I got my inspiration [to wear different-coloured boots] from Mario Balotelli.
She further revealed that the former Inter and Manchester City striker was her football idol, saying, “He’s my favourite player, and I watched him a lot when I was growing up. He did it in the 2014 World Cup, so I just did it.”
Despite being a defender, Alozie still draws inspiration from the enfant terrible, and fans of the Super Falcons will hope the mimetic stays with fashion statements and does not cross over into character flaws.
Alozie is expected to start her fourth consecutive game at the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Monday against England in the crunch Round of 16 encounter for the Super Falcons.
