First Lady Remi Tinubu charged the Super Falcons to win the World Cup but after their exit promises a welcome for the team.
England defeated the Super Falcons of Nigeria 4-2 on penalties in the round of 16 to go to the World Cup quarterfinals.
After Lauren James was sent off and the Super Falcons hit the woodwork three times, the defending European champions were fortunate to maintain a 0-0 draw.
After Brazil, Canada, Germany, and the United States were eliminated, Nigeria, who was rated 40th in the world and 36 places below England did well in their attempt to cause another upset.
Chloe Kelly smashed home the winning penalty kick after Nigeria missed their first two.
First Lady Remi Tinubu consoles Super Falcons after World Cup exit
After witnessing the FIFA Women's World Cup round of 16 match, First Lady of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, together with the wives of Vice President Hajia Nana Shettima and Senate President Mrs. Ekaette Akpabio, praised the Super Falcons and expressed their pride in them.
Remi Tinubu charged the Super Falcons to win the World Cup but was satisfactory in her analysis after their exit.
In a video by Busola Kukoyi, Remi Tinubu assured that the team did Nigeria proudly and will receive a welcome
She said, “I want to say we are proud of them firstly. We are all here, you can see, we woke up early, Mrs Shettima even got to my office.
"She was the first person to get here. They played very well, we are proud of them and we gave England a run for their money.
"So we did well, we are proud of them so we will be waiting to receive them so that’s all we can say for now,” she said in an interview with NTA.
“We will receive them, why not, we have to. We will receive them when they come, they made us proud.
"The match wasn’t easy for England so it was like a bonus… because they really played very well and they played fine soccer, they did. we are proud of them."
The statement by the First Lady, Remi Tinubu comes after her husband President Bola Tinubu congratulated the team.
