However, despite his impressive form, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle chose to leave him on the bench during Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Sadiq's spectacular goal wins LaLiga recognition

In a season where LaLiga has been filled with stunning strikes, Sadiq Umar’s breathtaking backheel finish against Osasuna stood out as the best of them all in March.

The Nigerian forward edged past Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu and CD Leganes’ Diego Garcia to win the coveted Goal of the Month award, as confirmed by LaLiga’s official channels.

His moment of magic came in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Osasuna. With Valencia trailing and time running out, Sadiq produced a moment of brilliance in the 87th minute, flicking the ball past Osasuna’s goalkeeper Sergio Herrera with a perfectly executed backheel to level the score.

Sadiq’s goal not only won a crucial point for Valencia in their battle against relegation, but also won the Super Eagles star the March goal of the month plaudit.

Chelle snubs red-hot Sadiq in crucial games

Beyond his award-winning goal, March was an exceptional month for the Nigerian striker, who is on loan from Real Sociedad.

Umar Sadiq has scored 4 goals in the last 5 games for Valencia.

He scored three goals in LaLiga netting a brace against Osasuna and adding another against Real Valladolid and his performances were so impressive that he was even nominated for LaLiga’s Player of the Month award, competing against the likes of Kylian Mbapp and Isco.

Since joining Valencia in January 2025, Sadiq has scored five goals in eight league appearances, proving to be an invaluable addition as the club battles a drop to the Spanish second division.

While Sadiq’s performances have been turning heads in Spain, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle seems unimpressed. Despite his electric form, Chelle completely overlooked Sadiq, who played zero minutes in Nigeria’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Instead, the coach placed his trust in Victor Osimhen, while choosing Tolu Arokodare and Victor Boniface as the preferred backup options.
