Former Super Eagles player Emmanuel Amuneke has lost his job at Zambian Super League club, Zanaco after the club announced the his departure following consistency in poor results.
The former African Footballer of the Year and 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning coach, was appointed by the Zambian giants in September 2022 as a consultant alongside his Nigerian assistant, Emeka Amadi.

Zanaco on Amuneke's departure
“The Board of Directors and Management of Zanaco Football Club wishes to announce that the club has separated with the consultant Coach Mr. Emmanuel Amuneke and the Assistant Coach Mr. Emeka Amadi with immediate effect. The club has also separated with the Head Coach Kevin Kaindu," the club announced in a signed letter by its Chief Executive Officer Modest Hamalabbi.

The leadership of Zanaco also announced that former Zambian national team coach Wedson Nyirenda will replace the Nigerian as interim manager till the end of the current season.

So far, there has been no reactions from the 52-year-old who helped the Nigeria lift its fifth FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015, and followed it by making history again, qualifying Tanzania for their second-ever Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 since their debut at the 1980 edition.

Amuneke have also previously worked in Egypt where he was the manager of Egyptian Premier League club, Misr Lel Makkasa SC from February 2020.
He was a vital member of the Super Eagles team as a player, scoring both goals in Nigeria's 2-1 victory over Zambia at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia to win their second African championship. At the 1994 World Cup, he also represented the Super Eagles, where he scored notable goals against Bulgaria and Italy.
