The two former Gor Mahia players helped their respective club sides abroad to produce contrasting outcomes on Friday night.

Harambee Stars footballers Anthony ‘Teddy’ Akumu and Erick 'Marcelo' Ouma featured prominently for their respective clubs abroad on Friday night but experienced contrasting outcomes.

Akumu's second appearance for Kheybar Khorramabad ended in disappointment as his team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Sepahan in an Iran Pro League clash at the Takhti Stadium on Friday night.

Akumu, who joined Kheybar Khorramabad at the beginning of the month as a free agent, had made an immediate impact on his debut, playing the full match in a 1-0 victory over Havadar.

Heading into the match against Sepahan, expectations were high as Akumu was once again entrusted with a starting role, anchoring the midfield for the newly-promoted side.

Kheybar got off to a promising start, with Mehrdad Ghanbari converting a penalty in the 35th minute to give the hosts an early lead.

The match was tightly contested, with both teams creating opportunities that went begging. Kheybar appeared poised to secure a second consecutive victory and continue their strong start to the season.

However, the tide turned in the 70th minute when Sepahan’s Mohammad Amin Hazbavi found the back of the net, leveling the scores.

As the match entered extra time, it seemed destined to end in a draw, but fate had other plans. In the dying moments, Javad Aghaeipour scored a late winner for Sepahan, leaving Akumu and his teammates devastated.

Despite the loss, Kheybar remain in a respectable seventh position on the 16-team league table, with three points from their first two matches. Sepahan, on the other hand, climbed to the top of the standings.

Ouma's Rakow Secure Thrilling Comeback

Meanwhile in Poland, Ouma played a pivotal role in Rakow’s stunning late comeback to defeat Lechia 2-1 in a top-tier match on Friday. Ouma, deployed as a wing-back, put in a solid 84-minute shift before being substituted for David Drachal, with Rakow trailing 1-0.

Ouma made 29 touches and won three of his five ground duels, helping to keep his team in the match. Despite Lechia’s lead, courtesy of Rifet Kapic, Rakow refused to back down.

The turning point came late in the game, as Rakow mounted a spirited comeback. Patryk Makuch equalised, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.

In the dying moments, Jonatan Braut Brunes struck the decisive goal, sealing a 2-1 victory for Rakow and sending their fans into raptures.

The victory propelled Rakow to the top of the table with 11 points from six games, marking a strong start to their campaign.
