Nelson Mandela's birthday marks the funeral of Stanley "Screamer" Tshabalala honoring the soccer legend's transformative impact on South African football.

Orlando Pirates FC legend, Stanley 'Screamer' Tshabalala will be laid to rest on a day of great national significance—Nelson Mandela’s birthday.

Scheduled for July 18, the burial of this football icon carries a profound symbolism aligning his legacy with that of South Africa’s most revered leader.

Tshabalala, who recently passed away at the age of 75 left an indelible mark on South African football.

As a testament to his influence Tshabalala's funeral service will begin at 9:00 AM at Grace Bible Church in Pimville, Soweto, followed by a procession to Westpark Cemetery for the burial.

The choice of Mandela’s birthday for Tshabalala’s burial is seen as a tribute not only to his personal legacy but also to his shared values with Mandela—unity, perseverance, and transformation.

Both figures are celebrated for their pivotal roles in shaping modern South Africa; Mandela through his political and humanitarian efforts, and Tshabalala through his dedication to football.

In an interview ANC acting national spokesman Zuko Godlimpi highlighted Tshabalala’s contributions.

“He was involved at the grassroots level and building football into a professional sport. Tshabalala transformed South African football into a formidable force that is a marvel on the continent and globally, competing with the best in the world.

Bra Stan played an important role in building Bafana Bafana into a powerhouse, contributing to its growth internationally as the head coach. South Africa prides itself on the growth, performance, and competitiveness of the national senior team," he said.

Tshabalala's journey in sports began in boxing but he became a household name in football.

His career included significant stints as a coach at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he introduced the famed 'Shoe Shine and Piano' style, and later at Bafana Bafana, following their re-admission to international football.

He also served as a key administrator for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

His sudden death came after a tragic incident in March when he was shot at his home.

The wounds eventually led to his passing a loss that has been felt deeply across the nation.

Tshabalala’s impact on football and the communities he served is remembered fondly by fans and players alike.

As a founding member of Kaizer Chiefs and a pivotal figure at Orlando Pirates, his legacy is complex and far-reaching, bridging rivalries with a unifying passion for the game.
