The teenage sensation has been awarded for his brilliant campaign at the Secondary School games where he led the Solidarity Boys to the National football title

St Anthony’s Boys Kitale teenage sensation Aldrine Kibet has been crowned the Sports Personality of the Month of September after his mesmerising displays led his side to the National Secondary School Games title at Bukhungu Stadium last month.

Kibet was the star of the show as St Anthony’s stormed to the final where they beat Dagoretti High School 2-0 to claim their sixth national title.

Midfield maestro scored both goals in the final, ending the tournament with 25 goals and 27 assists, including those achieved in the early rounds of the competition.

His combined tally of 42 goals earned him the prestigious title of the competition's Most Valuable Player, a recognition that cemented his place in the annals of Kenyan football history.

Having earned plenty of plaudits for his immense talent, accolades have now started arriving for the 17-year-old who shrugged off stiff competition to be crowned the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Sports Personality of September.

“Congratulations to teenager Aldrine Kibet for being named the winner of the LG and SJAK Sports Personality of the Month Award. Kibet was named the Kenya School Games MVP after leading his team St Anthony’s to the National Championship,” SJAK said via a statement on social media.

Kibet was up against double world champion Faith Kipyegon, who claimed gold in 1,500m and 5,000m for Kenya at the 2023 World Championships, and the likes of 800m world champion Mary Moraa.

Kipyegon had won the June and July awards after her record-breaking feat in the Diamond Leagues when she smashed three world records in the 1,500m, mile and 5,000m over that period.

She was hot favourite to make it three awards in four months but Kibet pipped her to the prestigious gong that comes with a state-of-the-art 55-inch LG TV from the organisers’ sponsors.

Kibet's journey is now set to take him to even greater heights as he prepares to join the Nastic Soccer Academy (NSA) in Tarragona, Spain.

The academy, boasting over 135 years of rich footballing heritage, has witnessed the evolution of many renowned talents. With a history steeped in success, NSA presents the perfect stage for Kibet to hone his skills and showcase his talents on the international platform.
