After revelations that Ksh1 billion was spent on consultancy services for AFCON 2027, it has now emerged that the cost of upgrading two stadiums was inflated without any explanation.
The Ministry of Sports faces further questions over the inflated cost of renovation work of Kasarani and Kipchoge Keino stadiums which are part of the venues to be used for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
As per People Daily, documents presented to Parliament by Sports PS Peter Tum have shown a massive increase in the cost of upgrading the two stadiums without any corresponding costs of new works, raising questions on expenditure of public funds.
The cost of upgrading the Kasarani Sports Complex had initially been put at Ksh2.4 billion before it was escalated to Ksh3.18 billion while the the initial cost of upgrading Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret was Sh1.86 billion.
It was, however, moved to Kshh2.65 billion before another massive jump to Sh3.5 billion without any reasons.

Sports Ministry on the spot over billions sunk into consultancy services for AFCON 2027
Concerns have been raised over misuse of public funds following revelations that the Ministry of Sports spent billions on consultancy services for the AFCON 2027 tournament.
The revelation comes after it was revealed that close to Ksh3 billion was spent on consultancy services and feasibility studies for stadia and sports academies.
The documents showed that the ministry spent Ksh1 billion on consultancy services for AFCON 2027 which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
Besides that, Sh352 million was spent on regional consultancy services while Ksh1.5 billion was splashed on design feasibility studies and topographical surveys ahead of construction of constituency sports academies.

Government provides positive update over progress of Kasarani and Talanta stadia ahead of AFCON 2027
The Government has provided a positive update over the progression of both the Kasarani and Talanta Sports City stadia ahead of AFCON 2027.
The ministry has insisted that renovation work at Kasarani will be completed by November while no date has been set yet for the end of the upgrading of Kipchoge Keino Stadium which is one of the facilities whose works has taken a long time.
