Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen has stated that Nick Mwendwa's move to deputise Doris Petra in the upcoming FKF elections would be flaunting term limits.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has thrown a spanner at Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential hopeful Doris Petra and her running mate, outgoing FKF president Nick Mwendwa.
The CS has questioned the eligibility of Mwendwa to run as the deputy in the upcoming FKF presidential elections poised for December 7.
The December 7 election has drawn attention, particularly due to Mwendwa's controversial stance.
Having completed two terms as FKF president, the maximum allowed under FKF’s constitution. Mwendwa has repeatedly stated that he intends to seek a third term.

War of words dominate second FKF presidential debate as candidates provide solutions for match fixing
The second presidential debate saw six candidates in attendance, with only two missing the forum.
After initial resistance, Mwendwa adjusted his approach, positioning Petra as the presidential candidate while he joined the ticket as her running mate.
This move appears to leverage a potential loophole in FKF’s term limits.
However, CS Murkomen has raised doubts about the legality of this tactic, citing provisions that prevent a two-term president from taking on a deputy role without meeting the eligibility standards required of a president.
"We had a very good chat with Nick, and he agreed it wasn’t possible for him to run again,” Murkomen said during an appearance before the National Assembly Committee on Tuesday.
He elaborated on the constitutional basis for his position, stating, “Can you, as a committee, present this to the FKF elections board? The question is, if you do not qualify as a president, can you then qualify as a vice president? If you have exhausted your term limit as a president, should you be allowed to serve as a vice president?"
Murkomen pointed to the FKF constitution’s provision, which asserts that a vice president must meet the qualifications for the presidency.
