Viktor Gyokeres has been rumored to join Manchester United after the appointment of Ruben Amorim as United boss.

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has addressed rumors linking him with a potential move to Manchester United following manager Ruben Amorim’s appointment as United's new head coach.

On Friday, November 1, United officially confirmed Amorim's hiring, marking him as Erik ten Hag’s successor after weeks of speculation and negotiation.

As soon as the Portuguese tactician’s move was made public, speculation quickly grew over the future of Gyökeres, who has been pivotal under Amorim’s stewardship at Sporting.

Since joining the Portuguese club in 2023, the Swedish striker has enjoyed remarkable success, netting 66 goals under Amorim’s guidance.

However, Gyokeres was quick to quiet the rumors of him following Amorim to Old Trafford.

When asked about a possible transfer to United, Gyokeres dismissed the idea with a clear statement.

“Going with Amorim to Man United? I don’t know, I’m here. As you can see, I enjoy it at Sporting. It’s nothing I think about,” he said as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

He further expressed his feelings regarding Amorim’s departure, adding, “I’m sad about him leaving. We wish him all the best.”

Gyokeres’ contributions have been instrumental to Sporting’s success, most recently highlighted by his impressive four-goal performance against Estrela, which further underscored his value to the team.

The Swedish forward’s form has not gone unnoticed, making him a sought-after talent in Europe.

Amorim, addressing the rumors of United seeking Sporting players, was adamant that he wouldn’t pursue any of Sporting’s stars during the January transfer window.

“Gyokeres costs £100 million,” he said via Sky Sports on the back of their 5-1 win against Estrela on Friday.

“It’s very complicated. I will not take any of Sporting's players in January. But that’s another story.”

Amorim will remain with Sporting for the next three matches, which include two domestic league clashes and a high-profile Champions League match against Manchester City.
