Spain full-back Jesus Navas has declared that Sunday’s Euro 2024 final clash against England will mark his final appearance in the Red and Yellow regardless of the outcome.

The 38-year-old, who has been a fixture in the national team since his debut in 2009, expressed his sentiments in a characteristically understated manner during the pre-game press conference.

Álvaro Morata, acknowledging the significance of the moment, ceded the floor to Navas, emphasizing the veteran’s pivotal role in Spain’s journey through the tournament. "Morata told me it was the moment for me to speak because it will be my last game."

Navas reflected on his illustrious career, spanning from Spain’s triumph in the 2010 World Cup to their Euro 2012 victory, highlighting his pride in representing his country over 56 caps.

"To still be here after so many years shows that I have done things well and it would be amazing for the whole group to end with the trophy... we deserve it.''

"Even at 38, I am still excited about everything, helping the national team, my country .. but the decision has been made."

Navas, known predominantly for his wing play but adaptable to defensive duties in recent years, played a crucial role in Spain’s path to the final, notably stepping in at right-back during Dani Carvajal’s suspension.

Despite his enduring passion for the game, Navas reaffirmed his decision to retire after the final, maintaining his focus on concluding his playing career at Sevilla FC by January.

While Navas remains committed to contributing to Sevilla behind the scenes post-retirement, he emphasized that the decision to hang up his boots has been firmly made.

As Spain prepares for a showdown with England in Berlin, Navas hopes to crown his international career with a triumph, believing the team deserves to lift the trophy.

With his farewell imminent, Navas leaves an indelible mark on Spanish football, celebrated for his unwavering dedication and numerous contributions to La Roja’s success over the past decade and beyond.
