Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has criticised the club’s ownership for selling three players who he described as the “soul of the team.”

Chelsea's drastic squad overhaul has sparked concerns from legend Gianfranco Zola, who blames the ownership for selling key players.

The Blues have replaced experienced stars with young talent, leading to a shaky start to the season with just three wins in ten Premier League matches.

Zola specifically criticizes the sale of Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic, citing the loss of leadership and experience.

He also lamented the departure of Jorginho, describing him as a vital leader on the pitch. The lack of seasoned players has resulted in Chelsea struggling to close out games they dominated

“Chelsea have had a hard season, especially at the beginning, but they changed a lot,” he told Ladbrokes.

“They put a lot of young players in place and lost a lot of experienced ones like Jorginho, Havertz, and Kovacic.

“They lost many players who were the soul of the team, the leaders, so it took time to get going.

Chelsea finished the season strongly under ex-boss Mauricio Poechettino but the Argentinian tactician was dismissed after a post-season review, paving the way for new manager Enzo Maresca.
