Sofapaka FC overhauls its technical team, hiring Ezekiel Akwana as assistant coach, amid concerns over their early-season performance in the Premier League.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL)  side Sofapaka FC have unveiled significant changes to their technical bench.

These adjustments come at a critical juncture, given their recent string of lackluster performances.

The Batoto ba Mungu have onboarded Ezekiel Akwana, a familiar face, as their new assistant coach.

Akwana will now join hands with the head coach, the adept Francis Haringingo from Burundi, in what is expected to be a partnership that revives the team's glory.

“We are pleased to announce we have acquired the services Ezekiel Akwana as one of our assistant coaches He rejoins Batoto ba Mungu from Muranga Seals. Welcome back coach,”  reads the club post.

Club President, Elly Kalwekwa, echoed these sentiments in his recent interaction with local dailies.

"In Akwana, we see not just a coach, but someone who inherently understands and resonates with the club's philosophy. Even when he wasn't with us, he was a part of the Sofapaka spirit. His partnership with Haringingo promises to reset our course this season,” he said as per PD Daily.

However, the changes have left fans and pundits speculating about the future of the other assistant coach, Pablo Nduwimana. The club's silence on this topic has only fueled further rumors.

Adding to the air of uncertainty, David Ouma, the club's Sporting Director, has reportedly stepped down from his role.

Repeated attempts to reach out to Ouma went in vain, further deepening the mystery surrounding his sudden departure.

Akwana, an astute tactician, last showcased his managerial prowess at Mathare United. His abrupt resignation in 2022 left many in surprise, and his return to the football scene with Sofapaka is seen as a promising move by fans and critics alike.

The pressure is undoubtedly on for Sofapaka, having had a rough start this season. Their 1-1 draw against reigning champions Gor Mahia FC and subsequent losses to Bandari FC and Posta Rangers have raised eyebrows and concerns.

With these new changes in the coaching department, supporters and foes alike will be keenly watching Batoto ba Mungu's next move on the pitch.
