The gloveman suffered a knee injury during FKF Cup match against Ulinzi Stars.

Former Kenyan champions Sofapaka are worried goalkeeper Simon Masaka could miss the rest of the season with an injury.

The first-choice goalkeeper suffered an injury during FKF Cup quarterfinal match against Ulinzi Stars on April 29 at Police Sacco Sacco Stadium.

Eyebrows were raised as Sofapaka named a Starting XI against Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday, with Masaka, the biggest absentees from the line-up.

There were hopes that Masaka could return in a fortnight, but that return date has endured a setback, and he faces an even longer lay-off.

The blow comes for Batoto ba Mungu, who are chasing a top-nine finish in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League this season.

A source at the club disclosed that Masaka, who has established himself as a key figure for the club, will undergo some tests to learn the full extent of the problem.

"Early indications are that he is going to require some more tests, and he is out for a long period, and looking at the season and the way it is, we are not going to rush him back and squeeze him into four or five games this season," the source revealed.

Kevin Omondi was roped in as his replacement against Kariobangi Sharks in the Sunday match at Kasarani Annex.

AFC Leopards have identified the 28-year-old as one of two potential goalkeeper signings for the next season.

They are expected to make an offer for him at the end of the season alongside  Nzoia Sugar's captain Humphrey Katasi.
