FOOTBALL Sofapaka coach David Ouma reveals season target after FKF Cup exit

Festus Chuma 19:40 - 01.05.2023

Ulinzi Stars eliminated Sofapaka from the FKF Cup on post-match penalties.

Sofapaka barely have time to reflect on their FKF Cup elimination as they have to focus on their Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match against Vihiga Bullets on Tuesday afternoon.

Batoto ba Mungu are still hurting from their 5-4 post-match penalties loss to Ulinzi Stars after a 1-1 draw in regular time in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

But coach David Ouma feels his side's wastefulness in front of goal contributed to his team's defeat, and now they have shifted focus on the league.

"We had opportunities to kill the game in the second half as we had two open chances, but that didn't happen. Again during the spot kicks, we were denied by the crossbar.

Now we will concentrate on the league, starting with our next game. We will rise and fight until the end, and I promise a top-nine finish," Ouma concluded.

Boniface Muchiri scored a 37th-minute goal for Ulinzi before Jacob Panoam found an equalizer for Sofapaka in the 42nd minute from a rebound, sending the match to a penalty shootout.

Simon Munala, Levin Ochieng', Jacob Adis, and Roy Okal scored for Sofapaka, while Stephen Okola’s penalty hit the upright.

Sofapaka is placed 13th on the league table and 11 points adrift of ninth-placed team AFC Leopards with seven matches remaining to the end of the season.

Batoto ba Mungu will hope to bounce back on Tuesday when they play away to bottom-placed Vihiga Bullets.
