Faith Kipyegon and Ferdinand Omanyala are Kenyans expected to be in action on the opening day of the World Championships.
Quizzed about how her heat was, Kipyegon said: “It was really good. It was a tactical race and as you know, championship is all about the tactics and not about the time…It is all about the medal.”
Kipyegon is also neither worried about the weather in Budapest nor the threat of Dutch rival Sifan Hassan, whose competitive rivalry goes way back.
“All I know is that I am ready and the weather conditions here are good. The rest will fall in place,” said a confident Kipyegon, who holds the world records in the women’s 1,500m, 5000m, and the Mile, all set within the space of a month.
Kipyegon is using the 1500 metres as ‘a warm up’ ahead of the 5000 metres event, with many expecting her to claim her maiden gold medal in the event.
“Yes I am doubling up in the 5,000m but my priory first is to defend my 1,500m title.”
