Roy Keane criticized Arsenal's defensive mindset and "small team" mentality after reverting to a time-wasting strategy with 10 men in their 2-2 draw against Manchester City, similar to their approach in a previous match against Brighton.

Roy Keane has faulted Arsenal for reverting to a defensive strategy, a tactic that saw Jon Stones score in the last minute of added time for a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal's performance in the wake of that hard-fought draw, has been subject of debate by football stakeholders and pundits alike, particularly after deploying a similar style against Brighton in their third match of the season, after Declan Rice was shown his marching orders for a second yellow card.

The Gunners who played second fiddle to City in the title race last season, managed a point against the Seagulls.

Keane, who played as a midfielder during his time, slammed Arsenal for 'just booting it' after being reduced to 10 men, said the Gunners have a minnow mindset.

"They were just booting it , like a small team with a small mentality," Keane told the Stick to Football podcast.

"Go back three or four weeks, Arsenal did the same thing against Brighton with 10 men or 15 minutes to go-the goalkeeper went down against Brighton at home.

"This idea that they've gone to the great Man City, their mind against Brighton at home was exactly the same -that's my argument," he added.

Arsenal is fourth with 11 points after three wins and two draws- two points behind table -topping City. Liverpool and Aston Villa are second and third respectively while Chelsea complete the top five.

Keane continued: "I'm saying when you've got it, still look after it. When you do get it, try and get four or five passes together."

"They were time-wasting against Brighton at home, so forget this idea it was Man City."

Arsenal return to action against Leicester City on Saturday while City have a date with Newcastle United.
