Ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's amazing prediction about Aston Villa at the beginning of the season has now come true.

Aston Villa were victorious over Manchester City on Wednesday night, living up to an early season prediction made by Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

The lackluster champions' loss puts them in fourth place in the league, trailing leaders Arsenal by six points.

Unai Emery's Aston Villa side have now won their last 14 home matches in a row, their best run since 1931.

Former Manchester United manager and football legend, Sir Alex Ferguson accurately predicted Aston Villa's rise and success at the start of the campaign.

Despite Emery's troops facing a challenging beginning with a 5-1 loss to Newcastle on the opening day, Ferguson was impressed with Villa's performance.

When questioned about his standout team from the season opener, the Scot surprised many with his endorsement of Villa, suggesting his foresight might have been spot on after all.

"To be honest with you, I watched Aston Villa and Newcastle, and I can't believe the scoreline," he said.

"Honestly, Aston Villa were excellent and played fantastic football, and just lost bad goals. It's a surprising game, football. You can play teams off the pitch and not score - that's what Aston Villa did."
